While we’re in the midst of winter, we have to be honest and say that we’re already looking forward to summer in Montana! And even though winter started slowly this year (we had gorgeous temperatures in December), January and February made up for it with cold temperatures, winter snowstorms and more blanketing our beloved Rocky Mountains and our hometown of Augusta, Montana.
If you’re like us and you’re planning your summer vacation and adventures, we’d love to invite you to come experience the Bob Marshall Wilderness with us. Each year, our family-owned and -operated business takes guests into The Bob, as it’s affectionately called around here. If you’re ready to have a bucket list trip, this is definitely one to put on your list.
Here are five reasons to book a summer pack trip in Montana:
1. It’s all-inclusive. A six-day pack trip with us in all-inclusive, which means that from day one to day six, we take care of your accommodations, horseback trail rides, hiking and meals. And while we don’t provide adult libations, if you want to BYOB, you’re welcome, too!
2. You ride through beautiful country. We’ve spent countless hours in the saddle, riding our horses from the Benchmark Trailhead up and over the Continental Divide and to our camp at White River and one thing that remains true – the views never get old. The wilderness is a living and breathing place, which means it’s always evolving, from wildflowers to waterfalls and creeks to seeing wildlife in their natural habitat.
3. Our horses and mules are seasoned and experienced. Our horses and mules are part of our extended family here at Mills Wilderness Adventures of Montana. They are with us year-round; in the summer and fall, they’re hitting the trails of The Bob with us, hauling in gear and guests. They get the winter off, but we care for them in every way imaginable, from feeding to watering and doctoring to training. Tucker, Bryar and Turk work with our horses on a regular basis, making sure they’re as ready and prepared as possible to cover mountain terrain.
4. Zero light pollution. For many folks, it’s hard to get away from city lights. On a pack trip with us during summer in Montana, we stay at our White River Camp. And while there are lots of reasons to love camp, the unfiltered look at the star-filled sky is definitely at the top of the list. We’re convinced there’s nowhere better to see it than in The Bob.
5. No cell service. With no cell service (don’t worry, we have a satellite phone for emergencies), you’re truly able to unplug and get away from it all. It’s an amazing reset for your body, mind and soul, truly giving you a chance to reconnect with nature and yourself.
